Who is 'Help Uganda'?Liz HumphreysLiz worked as an occupational therapist before deciding in 2003 to return to Uganda where she had lived many years before. The needs are so great that it was hard to decide how best to help but in the end she decided to help the neediest children go to school. She lives in the islands for most of the year but returns to England every year for a short time. Anthony AbbottTony is the HUG's Chairperson. He spent most of his childhood in Uganda on the shores of Lake Victoria. When he met Liz shortly after she founded the charity, he volunteered his services, took responsbility for the charity in the UK and became involved in fund raising. He owns a veterinary practice in Buckinghamshire Michael OKaneA retired primary teacher who spent some time in Uganda establishing links with UK schools. Michael is now Education Officer for HUG, providing links between the Ssese Islands and UK schools along with educational resources. Mike co-ordinates "Help Uganda in Schools". To fInd the Schools section, you will find detailed background information, slideshows, suggestions on how you and your school can help and our new and expanding schools section with lesson ideas and a monthly diary to keep you up to date. We welcome contact from you, including feedback and ideas, but especially letters from your school that we would like pass on to the islands where they will cause a great deal of excitement and even be replied to! Marie Bowdler Marie is Anthony's sister, so also grew up in Uganda. Marie is a trustee and HUG's IT advisor. She owns a training company that provides IT, IM and Management training to corpoate clients in the South East. |
