Schools - maps of UgandaMaps of the Ssese Islands are difficult to find as very little has been surveyed. However, there is some coverage on Google Maps. These are very good
maps available on the web. There are various options ; you can choose
to view them as a political map showing cities, roads etc and geographical
features, or as a satellite photograph, or a hybrid of these two. This is why we have given two other maps that give
at least some detail. The second map shows the position of Lake Victoria and Uganda in relation to the rest of Africa. These two maps are best used on a Smartboard with a screen zoom of 200 %. If you have not done so already may we suggest that you download Google Earth to use on your Smartboard. This will enable you to find and zoom in to anywhere on Earth and can be used to set Uganda and Africa in the context of the whole planet and in relation to the UK. Photographic coverage of the planet is pretty good but, obviously, the more remote areas do not have such detailed coverage as the more developed areas such as the UK.
This map shows the position of the Sesse Islands in relation to Lake Victoria and Uganda. The insert shows the position of Uganda ( in red ) in relation to Africa.
A closer view of the islands. The ferry service from mainland Uganda is shown, along with the route of the main road on the largest island. The islands that are underlined are those that have a small school where children from HUG House have to board due the time taken for any journey. Education Officer |
